Today's tutorial will show you why its useful to add a link to a Vimeo video. Your video won't always be viewed on your own site. Make sure your videos take your calls to action with them.
Why do you need a CTA on a Video?
Why do you create videos? Maybe to:
- add value;
- appeal to different learning styles;
- talk to your viewers face to face;
- increase sharing; or
- demonstrate complex techniques.
Whatever the reason, they're a valuable, long-term asset.
Other people can embed your videos. Wonderful! Just what you'd hoped for, exposure to new audiences. The problem? The video isn't being watched surrounded by your well-orchestrated series of opt ins, sign ups, menus and pop ups.
Viewers love your videos. Great! If they loved it enough to get to the end, they will probably like other things you do too. But, there's nothing to click on. They wander off elsewhere. An opportunity for you both to connect is lost.
What if you could make it easy for viewers to find your blog? And not just your blog, but the exact page, post, opt-in, welcome page or product you want them to see?
The host website may include a credit and link to your site. But, that's not guaranteed. They want to tap into the value your video gives their readers, not yours.
How can you get full value from your videos when they live outside your own blog? How can you make sure they stand alone as a complete, content marketing asset?
Simple, just at a CTA to the end of the video.
If it's designed for anything other than pure entertainment — i.e. you want the viewer to do something as a result of watching it — make sure any video you create stands alone. No matter where it pops up online, make sure it guides the viewer easily back to your online home.
Once in place, the CTA can only be deleted or changed by you. This ensures that wherever the video goes, so does your CTA.
Adding a CTA on Vimeo is Quick & Easy
You'll need the link page URL and a few words for the link text. These words will appear on the screen as soon as the video finishes playing.
You can also go in and change the CTA in the future, without having to remake the video. This is a great way to make older videos relevant to your current-day promotions.
For example, I've just launched a 5-day ecourse for bloggers new to Photoshop. I've gone back to my Photoshop video tutorials on Vimeo and updated the CTA link to direct people to that sign-up page, rather than the Resource Library. If visitors are watching those particular videos, I know they're already interested in Photoshop. Editing the link makes the CTA specific to their needs.

There's a lot of work involved in creating, editing and uploading videos. Adding the link is such an easy and valuable additional step.
Your videos won't always be watched on your own blog. Make sure to include a CTA and invite them back to your place.
